Floating FAQ:

How often should I float?

This depends on what you are floating for. We recommend that you float at least 3 times within 6 weeks to get the full experience of total relaxation.

Many float once a week. Some twice a month, some once a month, and others whenever they feel that they need it.

People have different reasons for floating. Many are using it to relieve stress, some are using it to compliment treatments, and others are using it for self awareness. The frequency and duration of your floats will depend on what your reasons for floating are.

What do I wear in the floatation tank?

Naked is best – the room is private.

Who should not float?

Floating is safe a for just about anybody. There are, however, a few groups of people that we would recommend not float.

  1. Epileptics or those with seizures – check with physician first.
  2. Children under 7 years of age.
  3. Anyone with skin rashes.
  4. Anyone with an infectious or contagious disease.

If you have any pre-existing medical disease or have any concerns as to whether you should float, consult your physician first.

What effects does floating have on the body?

In the gravity free environment the body balances and heals internally as all the senses are rested. Research shows that floating measurably reduces blood pressure and heart rate while lowering the levels of stress related chemicals in the body.

While floating, your body experiences a state of weightlessness. This means your postural muscles don’t have to work which is a huge release of your processing. The muscles send a chemical message to the brain saying in effect “You can relax too, the environment is friendly” The blood vessels near the skin relax allowing more blood flow. Within a few minutes you feel better, less stressed, your body and mind become more relaxed more quickly than in any other natural state. The increased blood flow and freedom from pressure promotes healing of muscle strains and relief from joint pain. The more you float the better it gets. Furthermore, the effects lasts not just all day but for a day or two afterwards and the effects are cumulative, meaning, the body begins to pattern itself in this state.

What effects does floating have on the mind?

During a float you produce slower brain-wave patterns, known as theta waves, (normally experienced only during deep meditation or just before falling asleep).

Depending on your coding orientation (NLP) This can be accompanied by vivid imagery, creative thoughts, sudden insights and inspirations or feelings of profound peace and joy, induced by the release of endorphins, the body’s natural opiates.

What if I can’t swim?

Floating doesn’t require any swimming skills whatsoever. Because of the density of the solution, you’ll actually float like a cork and it doesn’t matter what shape or size you are. The water is only 10 inches deep so you can easily place your hands, feet, or knees on the floor.

Will I get bored or frightened?

People do sometimes get bored but rarely frightened. Usually boredom occurs when one is expecting something to happen. They are in there waiting for that expectation to occur. It isn’t until after one recognizes that nothing is what is happening that they allow themselves to be at peace. This is the process of relaxation.

What if I’m claustrophobic?

This is the most common concern. The float pods are equipped with ways to prop the door open, in case you think you might get claustrophobic. In over 30,000 floats, only 3 people have ever ended their session due to claustrophobia, more have come out and shared experiences of feeling in an overwhelmingly vast empty space. With no sight, sound, temperature, or gravity, one gets the sense that they are floating in space. At any time you wish to stick your head out, you can simply sit up. You are always in control and you can get in and out of the float pod anytime that you choose.

Is the floatation tank hygienic?

Yes. You float in a 30% Epsom salt (manesium sulfate) solution which is mostly sterile to begin with. Then, after each float session, the float pods are sanitized using compound filtration and ozone to both remove any particles and oxidize any waste products. We also add a small amount of 35% hydrogen peroxide(H2O2) to ensure sanitation.

Chemist Reports have consistently shown float pods to be far more sanitary than pools, jacuzzis, or the beach.

Do I Need to Prepare for my Float?

  1. Eat a light meal 1.5 hours prior to floating.
  2. Don’t shave within 4 hours or wax within 24 hours prior to float.
  3. If you wear contacts, be prepared to remove them.

Do I need to bring anything?

You are not required to bring anything but we do recommend you bring your own towel if you forget no biggie do have a supply. We have everything that you need to float including shampoo, conditioner, soap, body lotion, and towels. You are in a private room so all your possessions are safe.

Floating during pregnancy – is it safe?

Floating for pregnant women can offer a brilliant level of relaxation and pain relief not found outside of the tank.  Float Therapy allows you to escape the added weight of pregnancy by floating in a weightless environment, taking strain off the body, joints and spine. Floating promotes excellent sleep, a lovely sense of well being, and can help with all the aches and pains associated with pregnancy.

Floating can help the pregnant mum to literally float through the pregnancy with a level of calm and comfort whilst the Epsom Salt solution serves as an anti-inflammatory.  The  pregnant mum to be will also absorb Magnesium from the water solution in the float tank, which is amazing for the skin.

Women that are in their 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy are welcome to float after seeking advice from their healthcare provider.  When discussing floatation with your GP or healthcare provider, PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:

  • The tank water is heated to skin temperature of the body (34.5 degrees Celsius) and your core body temperature will not rise.
  • The water contains 360 kilograms of Epsom salt  (magnesium sulfate) which allows the anti-gravity floatation experience.
  • The tank water is filtered to less than 20microns, pH balanced, sanitised with a minimum of 2ppm of bromine.
  • There is direct airflow through the tank with its specifically designed ventilation system to encourage air flow and direction.

Lights and safety alarms are also available within the float tank for comfort and peace of mind.
